Harvest Moon

This is my second entry to the diorama contest. Like the last one, I made it according to the specifications, and I made everything in it (except for the light behind the moon. I did not fabricate my own lamp). The perspective is meant to be looking straight up into the sky.

This memory is from an October way back in high school when I saw a harvest moon. It was so huge, it looked like if I could just get a ladder I'd be able to climb up on it. It was also a deep orange. I think it epitomizes the feelings associated with fall. There's something otherworldly and fey, something wild about that time. The warm wind and the orange light make me want to run through the forest at night like a madwoman.

I chose to show myself and others actually climbing up to the moon on ladders to emphasize the magical feeling that nothing was impossible. I made the moon out of paper mache, wood glue, and acrylic paint. The ladders are shish kebob skewers, the people are cardboard, paper mache, and sculpey. The trees are watercolor paper.
